The initial idea for this blog came from noticing that computational neuroscientists were largely absent from the R community, creating a gap I felt this blog could play a small part in filling. Having used R extensively to build models, run simulations, develop and implement algorithms, visualize scientific data, and build scientific software, I wanted to use this space to create a technical resource for computational neuroscientists building, optimizing, experimenting with, and evaluating models and their outputs.
I hope a central thread will develop into an applied, open-source textbook progressively weaving together computational neuroscience, NeuroAI, and AI/ML, including modern AI. Examples will emphasize transparent derivation and implementation, primarily in R using tidy principles, with equivalent Python implementations and Rust where lower-level computation is useful (and fun!).
However, the blog will also serve as a home for research notes and other technical work (e.g., AI system and agent development, algorithms, software) that does not always have a natural publication outlet.
